At Alpsport we carry one of the largest ranges of cross country bindings in Sydney, including the New Telemark Norm bindings and boots. There is a wide choice in cross country bindings, whether you are a light weight tourer or resort telemarker. Alpsport carries many bindings from a range of companies including G3, Black Diamond, Rottafella, New Nordic Norm (NNBC),New Telemark Norm( NTN).
The older 3 pin style has all but gone and has been replaced by the cable 75mm toe bindings. These match the toe shape of the old bindings, and has many advantages over the old style, the greatest advantage is the increased torsional control and binding strength. This is a result of the pressure being shared across the entire boot so you gain much better control.
All telemark bindings can tour the backcountry however some will be lighter and softer for doing more distance with a greater stride length and some will be much stronger for resort telemarking, where weight is less of an issue.
There are numerous features to look at in a telemark binding, these include; toe piece, if for lightweight touring then it may have small locator lugs however if you are needing a stiffer binding for resort telemarking then you will need to have a full toe piece, with metal over the full width of the toe.
In recent times there has be an increase in the popularity of resort telemarking and this has seen many of the bindings becoming stiffer and stronger. The New Tellemark Norm, from Rotafella, are the latest in telemark bindings, these have the added function of release and work only with compatible New Telemark Norm boots (in stock 2010).
The latest from Black Diamond is the 01. The 01 has the added function of alpine touring, with a single button the binding changes from skin mode into touring mode, this enables the boot to pivot off the front of the toe allowing for better stride length when touring. The 01 also has the ability to change its stiffness with a variety of options available.
