One Planet Nitrous -3°C Down Sleeping Bag
This is the lightest bag for its warmth rating on the market: at 569 grams, the -3°C version is unbeatable. One Planet used technical know-how and quality materials to keep it warm and practical as well as super light: they used 3D, vertical V-baffles filled with 800+ loft DWR down; a full zip allows venting while the box foot prevents cold spots; and there’s a draft tube, three-quarter hood and internal chest drawcord.
The Nitrous is also versatile. It’s available in two warmth ratings and two sizes, each compatible with the Quest to further extend the options. (The Quest attaches inside the bag easily and securely on either side of the zip.) Other features include Vapour Vent fabric with a water-repellent coating and a zip protector on the YKK zip.
Nitrous sleeping bags are made using lightweight and highly breathable 15-denier Vapour Vent fabric. This strong, compressible and highly breathable fabric is ‘downproof by construction’: the tight weave keeps the down in but allows water vapour to escape. This reduces the possibility of clamminess and allows the down to loft fully for maximum performance.
One Planet use two qualities of down in their sleeping bag range. The Nitrous sleeping bags are filled to order with the higher quality 800+ loft DWR DOWN.
700+ loft DWR-treated duck down is One Planet's best value down, used for applications where minimum weight and packed size are not critical. Sleeping bags filled with this down are around $50 cheaper than their 800+ loft counterparts and around 100 grams heavier.
800+ loft DWR-treated duck down is our premium choice – a must for the gram counters. This high-lofting white duck down delivers luxurious warmth at a fine, feathery weight. This down has excellent compactability and loft recovery.
Down is the best insulation for lightweight sleeping bags due to its loft, compressibility and durability. However, this golden fibre has a failing: its ability to insulate drastically decreases when it is wet.
The solution is now here – DWR DOWN. This down has been selected to meet our rigorous standards, with a durable water-repellent (DWR) treatment applied after the cleaning and sorting process.
The benefits of DWR DOWN are:
- It absorbs less water in damp conditions
- It retains higher loft (insulation) in damp conditions
- It dries faster
Ethically sourced down
One Planet's down is ethically sourced, harvested and cleaned before purchase, with both the down and our supplier passing independent International Down and Feather Laboratory (IDFL) audits relating to ethical traceability. This means that the white down and feathers we purchase are from animals that haven’t been live plucked or force-fed at any point during the supply chain.
The IDFL has been around almost 40 years and has a solid base in China, from where around 75% of the global supply of down is sourced. There are more details on the IDFL here: www.idfl.com/whytest

One Planet sleeping bags are rated using the European Standard EN13537. This means every sleeping bag has two ‘real world’ and one extreme rating. To determine what temperature might be most suitable for you see our technical pages.
- ‘Comfort’ rating is based on a ‘standard’ woman having a comfortable night’s sleep.
- ‘Limit of comfort’ is based on the lowest temperature at which a ‘standard’ man is deemed to be able to have a comfortable night’s sleep. This is the figure we use in our product descriptions.
- ‘Extreme’ rating is a survival rating for a ‘standard’ woman. According to EN 13537, ‘a strong sensation of cold has to be expected and there is a risk of health damage due to hypothermia’. This is a survival rating only, and consumers should not rely on this rating for general use. The best guidelines are the comfort and limit of comfort ratings.
Nitrous sleeping bags come in two sizes.
As a general rule, our sleeping bags are a little roomier than other brands. The shoulder circumference measurements (below) give an indication of the internal space in the sleeping bag.
A well-fitting bag will give the best performance. If you need more room, we offer a series of Sleeping Bag Expanders.
